Greystones Skateboard Park

21 July, 2008 (22:28) | local news | 1 comment

This is a video about my local skateboard park. This is a really good activity for kids to get involved in especially for those who might not have an interest in or be good at sport. What really impressed me about the skateboard park was the peer support and camaraderie.
There are rules in place for the kids safety .e.g mandatory wearing of helmets to prevent head injuries, but it is largely self regulated with unwritten codes of practice in place such as dont drop into the bowl while another skater is using the space.

Again I think its really important to be involved in an activity and have peer support
I had a go myself and managed to stay on the board much to my amazement

Living with an Acquired Brain Injury

17 July, 2008 (12:05) | Acquired Brain Injury, Podcasts | No comments

I worked as a Training Facilitatir in the National Rehabilitation Hospital.
I produced a documentary on ABI “Living with an Acquired Brain Injury” with the help of the trainees in the hospital. The documentary is about the lives of 2 people with an an acquired brain injury and the impact it has them and their families.
ABI is often referred to as the silent epidemic and it can effect people in many ways including memory, insight and cognitive behaviour issues. A everday task for example like filling out a bank form can present difficulties and issues such as divided attention.
This clip features an interview with Gerry Mc Donnell. He gives an strong insight into ABI and how it effected him
He is a remarkable man and inspiration to others with an acquired brain injury

Greystones Arts Festival 2007

21 June, 2008 (13:13) | local news | No comments

This is a video clip from last years Arts Festival. Sadly the festival will not be going ahead due to a lack of funding. This is a real pityin my opinion because it emphasised the importance of community involvement and participation in events. It also enabled people to participate in the arts and a local parade
